Students this is your writing assignment.
Students will view the project plan tab on the class website to get complete a writing assignment for Presidents day. Procedure: 1. Read the essential question. In your opinion why are the presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln important to you? (What have they done to influence the way you live today?) 2. Click on and view the links and videos relating to presidents day. 3. Create a thinking map to gather information that answers the question why do we celebrate presidents day. You may chose to do a circle map, bubble map, tree map or any other thinking map you remember how to create. 4. After you have collected your data look over the general reflection sentence starters to help you write down the information you have collected on the thinking map you have created to start a rough draft of your final paragraph. Remember reflection is the key word. Do not write a summary of what you have read, but reflect on the information you have collected and write down your opinion of the information you have collected. You should place sentences in the correct order of historical events that that you have recorded. 5. After you have written your reflection sentences. Edit your paper using the criteria chart and rubric for your final draft. 6. Rewrite your sentences using the corrections you have made. Your final paragraph should be done. 7. To go above and beyond you may add details to your sentences and create a drawing or drawings to go along with your paragraph. 8. Once students are done with their final draft paragraph they will work in two groups. The class will be divided by which president they would vote for. 8. The groups will then construct a brochure for their candidate. 9. I will help each group construct their brochure. The brochure template has a link that is listed on the project page. 10. The brochure must contain the following information: president name, reason to vote for this president, candidates slogan, group name, details on who the president is, a little bit about the president as an individual, why he is the best choice for president, something important the president did before he became a president, something important the president did after he was elected into office.
